History & Heritage

The business began back in 1994 with coffee buyer, James Sweeting and coffee trader, Simon Herring hand roasting coffee in a garden shed.

With extensive knowledge of coffee and a few trips to origin under their belt, the pair set out to become the region's premier coffee supplier. Selling into local coffee shops, golf clubs and even hairdressers, 25 years on Lincoln & York now supplies coffee to over 250 customers within the out-of-home market.

Today, the out-of-home UK coffee market is valued at £6.5 billion and the pop-up roastery at the bottom of Simon's garden is now a 6,000m2 state-of-the-art facility, located between the two home cities it was named after.

“It's incredible to see the way the coffee industry has changed over the last two decades. At Lincoln & York we've been working behind the scenes in driving innovation and heritage at the core of the growing private label coffee sector.”

James Sweeting, Managing Director
